Crime Prevention Division

Preventing Crime on Campus

Since 1995, UPD has focused attention on crime prevention through increased emphasis on Community Oriented Policing. UPD was awarded two Community Oriented Policing grants, which provided seven new police positions. Four of those positions were devoted to the creation of a special crime prevention team and three to the creation of a bicycle patrol team.

We conduct more than 100 crime prevention programs each year for the university community on topics including personal safety, Operation Identification, DWI, drug dangers, sexual assault prevention and self-defense. Our crime prevention officers also assist in orientation presentations throughout the summer for incoming students and their parents that describe UPD’s services, crime prevention programs and crime statistics. Our programming is listed in the link below.
