Gotcha!

The Gotcha Program is conducted by the University Police Department as a service to increase awareness by:

Making room occupants at Residence Halls aware of the dangers of leaving your room unlocked.

When your room is unlocked you risk someone entering and removing your personal belongings. No one wants to loose even the smallest item that is of importance to them. Keeping your door locked does not guarantee you will not have something stolen, but it does make it more difficult. The more difficult the better, if someone forces their way into your room they make noise and possibly leave evidence behind. And please don't think you can leave the room JUST FOR A MOMENT! If someone is checking for unlocked doors the trip to the neighbors room or even the restroom could be costly!
Making occupants of the Academic building aware of unlocked doors.

It is very important for anyone using a building on campus to be mindful of others. If you leave a door unlocked so you don't have to find your keys each time, you could be at risk. If someone is in the building and you don't realize it, they might enter a room and remove property belonging to you or others.

It is also possible you might forget to lock the door and property could be stolen, or worse, someone could be hurt.

The Gotcha program uses a business sized card or an under-the-door flyer that indicates your door was locked for the above reasons. The cards are used by Police Officers and Facilities Access Personnel. If you should have a question about a Gotcha tag contact the Crime Prevention Unit at 245-8341 or e-mail.
