H.E.A.T. (Help End Auto Theft)
is a state-wide vehicle registration program administered by the Texas Department of
Public Safety that helps law enforcement officials identify stolen vehicles. Any
vehicle owner in Texas can obtain declas for his/her car or truck that authorizes
law enforcement officers to stop the vehicle and verify ownership between 1:00am
and 5:00am anywhere in Texas.
WHY ENROLL?
A car is stolen in Texas every five and a half minutes. More vehicles are stolen
between 1:00am and 5:00am than any other time. In 2001, more than 102,000 vehicles
were stolen in Texas. Simply by enrolling, you make it a lot harder for a thief to
drive away with your car.
ENROLLING IS EASY.
Just contact the Texas State University Community Awareness and Resource Team
by either calling (512)245-8341 during regular business hours or emailing one of the
officers listed here with
the subject "H.E.A.T. Info". Personal and company vehicles are eligible for H.E.A.T.
registration. You don't have to be a permanent Texas resident to participate in the
program as long as you can provide a Texas address and phone number while in state.
