Police Officer- University Police Department
|
|
|
- Respond to police calls from dispatchers and adhere to
proper police procedures.
- Provide assistance to the public, and University faculty and staff.
- Operate a patrol vehicle according to Departmental policy and state and
local laws.
- Patrol streets, parking lots, and buildings.
- Enforce traffic statues and laws.
- Perform non-police duties such as animal calls, assist on building unlocks,
vehicle assistance, and escorts.
- Write police reports in a timely manner.
- Perform daily duties by attending shift briefings; obtain assignments and
work as a team member.

To provide a visible deterrent against crime within the
university community, enforce parking and traffic laws; make initial criminal
investigations and reports; identify, apprehend and arrest criminal
offenders. Respond to non-criminal incidents on university property to render
assistance and also assist surrounding Law Enforcement agencies as needed.

Must be able to work flexible hours, rotating shifts,
weekends, and holidays.
The selected applicant must possess a valid Texas driver's license. A driving record
check will be performed on the selected applicant.
Employment with Texas State University-San Marcos is contingent upon the
outcome of a criminal history background check.

Required documentation:
Pass driving record check; provide a Personal History Statement; undergo a
criminal background investigation; provide a valid Texas Driver's License;
Must possess a high school diploma/GED; 60 college credit hours or an
Associates Degree; provide a current certification as a Peace Officer as
established by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards for
Education (TCLEOSE); State and Federal laws, traffic and parking laws.

- Ability to investigate criminal incidents, motor vehicle
collisions and alarms.
- Ability to ensure proper procedures for the apprehension of suspects is
followed.
- Bachelors Degree.
- Knowledge of University Policy and Procedures.
- Work experience in University environment.
